Shell hunting

Shell hunting

Observe, memorize and match shapes and colours

It’s a beautiful day and you’ve gone to the beach.  You’re a shell collector and you’ve decided to challenge yourselves to find the most beautiful specimens before the tide rises. At the end of the day, whoever has the biggest shell collection is the winner!

Shell hunting is an attention and memory game for young nature lovers aged 6 and up. Throw the shells on the beach, memorize them and then hide them, and now roll the dice: do you remember where the corresponding shell is? Whoever collects the most wins!

Materials

5 shaped boards (4 Beach/Sea and 1 Sea only) | 1 illustrated die | 24 Shell tokens, 6 of each type | 6 illustrated tiles | 1 card with a diagram and turn sequence | 1 card with an effects table and score chart | The rules

Goals of the game

Shell hunting is an attention and memory challenge where the frustration of a mismatch is replaced with the amusing uncertainty of what the consequence of the mistake will be, while continuing to reward the right behaviour. The shape and size of the components are designed to ensure optimal handling, the fast dynamics ensure a contained length of the game in case of repeated errors, encouraging the ability to choose a strategic perspective.

How to play

Shell hunting is a game that starts from memory and matching mechanics of the same shapes and colours. The realistic setting, which refers to everyday life or holiday situations, facilitates the involvement and motivation of the players and helps them to understand the rules of the game in the most linear way possible.

Shuffle the stick tiles and scatter them face down next to the board. Each stick tile has a different effect which is essential for winning!

Throw the shells on the beach

Memorize the shells and flip them: now you take turns rolling the dice to guess the shell whose shape and colour match the result on the dice! If, on the other hand, you get the Orange Star, you must choose a type or colour of Shell and then flip a token on the Beach.

Order of importance of shells

End of the game

The game ends in two ways: when the last shell left on the Beach is collected or when all Beaches have been submerged by the Tide.
