Creativity and autism are two terms which are often perceived as distant from one another. Yet creativity, whilst normally considered only an accessory to development, can contribute to strengthening self-esteem and self-efficacy, stimulating greater engagement and improving results.

This book, targeting psychologists, educators, teachers and parents of children aged 6 to 12 with high cognitive functioning autism spectrum disorders, offers activities based on experimentation and small group work, with the aim of increasing children’s creative potential and their social-relational and emotional competences, in particular:

  • fluidity, flexibility, originality and elaboration;
  • attention to others as a resource;
  • sharing, communication and collaboration in group work;
  • ability to exchange ideas with others and reflect on experiences had and emotions felt.

The Creativity Programme — designed for small groups and structured around  five encounters — is flexible and can be adapted according to the specific characteristics of the children, the space available and time at disposal. The book also provides a selection of illustrated, photocopiable practical material, to be used during the workshops. Colour versions of some of the worksheets are also enclosed with the book.
