A Gym for the mind 2 offers new activities for patients with mild-to-moderate cognitive decline and for all those people who want to hinder the effects of brain aging, «keeping their mind fit» in a fun way. As the first book, it is the result of a cognitive stimulation programme developed at the Regional Centre for the Study and Treatment of Brain Aging.
In line with the philosophy at the base of the method, the first part, with activities to stimulate conversation, relationships with others, oneself story-telling, states a fundamental concept: the person with dementia is not just a patient in need of care but, above all, a person still able to think, do, suffer and get pleasure from life.
The second part provides support to the various cognitive abilities through exercises with temporal and spatial orientation, visual attention, memory, language, logic and hand-graph skills.
All activities can be proposed individually or in groups by professionals or family caregivers, and can be expanded and modified to suit each person’s specific needs.

Through simple exercises and activities focused on specific topics, combined with colourful images, these workbooks spark curiosity and engagement with new cognitive challenges. Each workbook is structured around a central theme that connects the activities, all written in clear and accessible language to encourage independent use by older people.

The text is divided into four sections, each corresponding to a week. Each section explores different courses of a meal: starters, first courses, main courses and sides, fruit, and desserts.

Every week includes a variety of food-related activities, such as word searches, exercises to identify hidden phrases or mistakes, and a final quiz with questions on the topics covered throughout the week.
