Debate workshop at primary school

A practical volume, which provides the knowledge, tools, instructions and materials needed to introduce primary school teachers and pupils to debating, a critical and highly regulated exchange on curricular and extracurricular topics, in which two teams propose and oppose a set contention or issue, joining either one side (for) or the other (against).

Debating promotes various kinds of learning:

• critical thinking, a fundamental requisite for facing challenges of complexity;
• linguistic, reasoning and oral communication competences;
• citizenship competences, supporting civic education.

Furthermore, debating offers a number of advantages on social, emotional and personal levels, as it presents the 4 dimensions of inclusive didactics:

• the use of cooperative strategies, because you work in teams in debating;
• a welcoming class environment, where everyone can be valued for their own distinctness and talents;
• attention to the prosocial competences and the emotional variables connected to learning processes;
