In Italian schools, the Covid-19 emergency has unraveled all of the traditional reference schemes and practices which have been consolidated over the years. However, alongside the numerous critical issues that emerged, the school system also experienced an extraordinary experimental moment of didactics and organization.  Having to rethink one’s daily life, one’s tools, and one’s relationships in physical distancing, the crisis has become an opportunity for many to be able to go “beyond the distance”, developing a school of closeness without transforming physical distancing into social distance.

This volume offers teachers 101 ideas, formulated and tested by leading experts in the sector, that are useful for the different aspects of school, such as teaching the subjects, emotions and relationships between classmates, relationships with families and the inclusion of students with Special Educational Needs. The book is about good practices, ideas, strategies, reflections and fundamental models for the construction of a school capable of integrating in the best way in-person methodologies and active and participatory distance methodologies in the best way, without neglecting the use of outdoor environments in an outdoor education perspective.

Each idea, presented and illustrated extensively, highlights some guidlines:

  • In practice right away: operational and organizational aspects to immediately carry out teaching in the classroom, or experiments actually carried out during the closing months of 2020.
  • Reflection points: points to pay attention to and choices to be made when you want to propose an activity in the classroom.
  • Attention!: issues to be solved to make the management of classroom activities even more effective
  • SOS advice: as the title says, suggestions for expanding teaching effectiveness or for using simpler or more complex tools to carry out the activities.

The 101 ideas are grouped by the following thematic areas.
