Playing and learning are two closely intertwined and interconnected concepts: the recreational dimension, if it is well-structured, can encourage not only the learning of subject knowledge but also the development of thought processes and motivation to learn. With playing made into an authentic teaching strategy, the book offers recreational tips and suggestions which, in the presence of a competent adult and interaction amongst peers, aim to encourage English language learning, developing lexical and narrative competences.

The first part of the book introduces the theoretical principles and explains the methodology, objectives and the structure of the activities proposed, whilst the second part deals with the games, describing in detail how they are played and what material is needed.
Targeting children in their final year of nursery school up to primary year five — but useful also as a remedial tool for pupils with learning difficulties —, Let’s play with English comes as a complete, easy-to-use kit, containing:

  • 10 games (with over 130 different activities);
  • 1 alphabet wheel and 1 weather wheel;
  • 510 cards and 36 smiley tokens.

All the activities are based on educational and didactic objectives set out by the most recent ministerial guidelines and can be easily personalised and adapted according to the level and kind of class you are working with.
