In order to offer a key to enter the world of girls and boys who stutter, Stuttering in adolescence is divided into two volumes:

  • a guide for adults, containing theoretical, methodological and strategic information;
  • a colour comic with the story of Zack, a boy full of enthusiasm and dreams, similar in all respects to many of his peers, except for one characteristic: he stutters.

The comic
For the adolescent who stutters, fitting into the various realities of the social fabric can be complex and the comparison with others can cause discomfort and suffering. For this reason, a child who stutters may choose a child younger than him/her as a best or only friend. Just like in the comic, where Zack establishes an exclusive bond with Benny, who is a few years younger than him and with whom he feels comfortable, while not bonding with any of his peers.  This description is representative of the social life that a teenager who stutters often experiences.
Comics are an expressive form that has the advantage of speaking to everyone: to children, adults, pupils and teachers, children and parents. The transition from a stutterer to a person who stutters is after all a surprising path, which makes unexpressed potential flourish in those who live the experience, but also in those people (parents, clinicians, fellow peers) who have the fundamental task of accompanying the child who stutters during this journey.

The guide
Rich in scientific and practical references, the guide is proposed as a practical and complete starting point and examines the MIDA approach: an approach that considers the multidimensionality of the disorder, the individuality of the person, integrating individual speech therapy with group therapy and with the use of mediated arts activities.
