Word puzzles for the development of grammatical skills

Word games, an extraordinary resource available to teachers to involve and fascinate children, support reflection on the language and its structures and help to encourage autonomous learning.  The solution of a linguistic game, even a very complex one, is always a compelling challenge that encourages and teases out knowledge and skills learned in the classroom.

Enigmatography is a masked form of mental exercise that pushes one to advance hypotheses, to verify their exactness, to disprove them, to try again, to comply with the procedures, and to deduct. It encourages both intuition and rationality into the process.  In short, it supports convergent and divergent thinking. A further motivating element is the contextualization of the enigmatic activities within the narrative frame of an investigative story, in which the pupil is called to intervene in the first person. In any case, the link between the investigation and the puzzle is conceptually present in each activity. Every enigmatic game is in fact an investigation in itself.
