Text comprehension is one of the essential abilities that children between the ages of 8 and 10 acquire and consolidate at school. However it can prove challenging for those with learning difficulties, thus strategies which promote both metacognitive development and peer collaboration are needed.
It is with this aim that the book proposes the use of 28 «help-cards» with which pupils — individually or in pairs — tackle the practical exercises on texts (of a mathematical kind too), following simple self-teaching and guide strategies inspired by conceptual maps.
The cards provided help, in particular, children with SEN to ask the right questions, to correctly apply meaning analysis procedures and to learn an effective and mindful study method.
Suited also to other learning contexts, they can be fully considered part of each child’s personal «toolbox».
The kit — designed from an inclusive perspective — offers teachers, educators and therapists several tools for planning and assessing activities:
• a practical index, which clearly summarises how the activities are organised;
• a series of flowcharts, which aid you in choosing the most suitable help-card;
• checklists, for monitoring children’s autonomy before, during and after task completion.
