Thanks to the evidence brought to light by some recent studies and what has emerged from the clinical activity of mental health professionals, it has been observed that people with hoarding disorders report high levels of social distress and functional impairment that can be observed in different areas: work, social and physical health. Symptoms can also occur within other psychopathological conditions, making it difficult to establish a precise picture of the problem and limiting the possibility of offering specific and targeted treatment. To delineate a specific survey method, various tools (questionnaires, scales and interviews) were developed to facilitate clinicians in the differential diagnosis process. After a theoretical framework, the book presents a definition of hoarding disorder and describes its peculiarities, providing useful indications for therapists and support for the families of people who suffer from it. The volume concludes with a detailed analysis of the main diagnostic tools used at national and international levels.
