Trichotillomania, which consists of repetitively tearing hair and / or hairs, is still a little known disorder, although it is more widespread than one might imagine.  Hence the need to equip patients and professionals with a tool that provides the relevant and necessary information to recognize, evaluate and manage a pathology that causes considerable suffering and limitations in the most effective way.  The intervention proposed in this volume is based on the integrated cognitive-behavioral treatment, and interprets some canons of the standard protocol in a flexible and well-reasoned manner, adapting them now and again to the individual to whom it will be suggested.  In the first theoretical part, the symptoms and the main characteristics and manifestations of the disorder are described, while the second part presents the general principles and guidelines for the clinician, who will be able to use worksheets that have already been prepared for use during the course of treatment with the patient.

  • Classification, diagnostic criteria and phenomenological characteristics of trichotillomania • Tear-off styles • Physical and psychological consequences • Reference psychological models • Assessment • Italian Hair Pulling Questionnaire • Observational and self-monitoring assessments (worksheets and diaries) • Integrated cognitive-behavioral treatment • Environmental, sensory, motor, cognitive and emotional strategies • Evaluation of treatment and relapse prevention
